Memorial Day

This says it all. God Bless all those who serve in all branches of the military, to those who died while performing their duty, to those who came back from war with internal and external scars, to those who serve now and to those who are about to sign up, to volunteer, to all who protect our freedoms and our Constitution. You might want to grab a tissue for the end of this video.

What They Said Before, What is True Now...

This is unconstitutional, forcing me (or anyone else for that matter) to take health insurance under threat of fines and/or jail time. If the government wants to offer a health plan at a reduced cost, or free (a sliding fee scale is appropriate), and offered it as an alternative, then I would gladly step up and use it. But FORCING me to take it is wrong.

Here's an option, offer scholarships to medical students (doctors, nurses, dentists and other health care professionals), the catch is when you graduate, you have to work in a government health care facility for 5 years, you will get paid, just not as much as you would if you had paid for your own schooling and worked on your own after school. If they don't finish their 5 years, then they have to pay back all the money the government paid to send them to school. The other "catch" is you have to be a US citizen to get the scholarship, and you have to be a US citizen to be able to get low cost or free care, if you are not a legal citizen, then you can get emergency care, saving your life, limb or eyesight, then if you aren't here legally, you get a free ticket back to your country of origin. I would go for something like that.

One Trillion Dollars

Ray Stevens - Come To The USA

This is funny, and sad at the same time, all because it's true.

I especially like what is said at the end of the video:
"This video and song are dedicated to the hard-working  American citizens who were born in other countries and and chose to "Come to the U.S.A." the right way!"

Obama's Stash

It's so sad but true, too many people in this great Nation actually THINK like this?!

Conservative with Libertarian Leanings

I didn't really want to nor did I ever intend to have a political blog, heck, I don't even like politics! I have tried my best to keep the political chatter to a minimum on my main blog about living 100% off grid. The last few posts I wrote on my main blog ended up being hot button politics, mainly having to do with illegal immigration. So I decided it would be best to move the political rants over here, and baby, I'm letting it all hang out! So if you are sensitive, a bleeding heart liberal, a green peace tree hugger, then you probably will not like what I have to write, but I invite you to stick around, you just might learn something, about me anyhow... you don't have to stop reading my other blogs just because you don't agree with my politics, I read lots of other blogs written by liberals, I don't always agree with their political slant on things, but I enjoy reading their other stuff. Consider yourself warned. :)

Here is a little about myself. As I stated, I don't care for politics. I was raised in a conservative Christian family. Apparently, according to my Dad, my Grandfather on my Dad's side was a staunch, dyed in the wool Democrat most of his life. He was very much into politics, he was a school teacher and was a history buff. He changed parties when he decided that the main goal of the Democrats was to tax and spend, tax and spend, AKA redistribution of wealth.

Growing up, we were on the poor side of middle class, we never went hungry, but we came close enough over the years. I remember my father repaired our cars, did all the remodeling that was done in whatever house we lived in. We never called a plumber or electrician, we did that for 2 main reasons, we didn't have the money to pay someone else to do the work, AND my father had a standard of workmanship that he expected to see and didn't trust anyone else to do the job, he knew if he did it, it was done right.

My mother was a stay at home mom, she cooked for us, we didn't go out to eat except on special occasions, we didn't eat junk food, we didn't eat TV dinners or pre-packaged meals, we didn't own a microwave until I was an older teenager, and then we just re-heated leftovers in it. Again, it had as much to do with the expense of buying those convenience foods as it was about eating good, healthy, wholesome, REAL foods. Of course, growing up, I wanted to eat the mac and cheese from the blue box, I wanted to eat the quickie meals. As an adult I look back and can appreciate the dedication my mother had to feeding us well. I also learned how to cook from watching her, it's a very valuable skill to have, I'm afraid too many people have grown up on fast food, junk food, convenience foods and wouldn't know what to do in a kitchen that is stocked with real meat, flour, cornmeal, lard (or shortening), sugar, eggs, butter and cream. Yeah buddy, you cut me loose in a kitchen like that, and thanks to my Mom, I could whip out a grand meal. Just for the record, my Dad is a pretty good cook too. :)

So, I grew up in a conservative, do it yourself kind of family. I was born in Texas, though I spent some of my younger years in California, one of the hotbeds of socialism, fortunately not much of it rubbed off on me. I am very much a survival kind of person, I realize that the word "survivalist" now has negative connotations, I'd like to change that, back to what it is supposed to stand for, doing things for yourself, being able to take care of yourself, not relying on government safety nets... Do things for yourself. I don't mind asking for help when I need it, but I don't think that you need to live that way all of your life, especially if you are able bodied. Live on what you have, too many people are trying to keep up the Jones', and doing it on credit, which is one of the worst ways to live, it's bad enough to live from paycheck to paycheck, but it's really bad to live credit card to credit card.. That's one of the things I gave up when I moved to my off grid home, credit cards. I don't have a single one. If I don't have it in the bank, it doesn't get spent. I am also very much into barter. I do something for you, and you do something for me. Or we trade, no money changes hands and everyone is happy. Oh, there are some things that you need money to do, but for the most part, we live a very simple life and are all the happier for it.

I'm for smaller government, less welfare, less government spending, more controlled borders,  less government control over the US citizens, NO NANNY STATE, states rights, freedom OF religion (not freedom FROM religion), lets get back to the Constitution and away from government control. I'm a leave me alone and I'll leave you alone kind of person.

I don't hate anyone else, I don't wish harm on anyone. Some might think negatively toward me because I don't want this Country to be taken over or overrun by illegal immigrants, I even want a control on how many can immigrate legally. I realize that many who come over are just trying to make a better life for themselves, the problem is they don't become Americans, they try to make this country just like their former countries, if I wanted to live in Mexico, then I would move there (I only choose Mexico because that the closest border to me and that's the nationality I most interact with). Why not stay where you originally come from and improve what you have there? I am all for you improving your part of the world, I want everyone to succeed, I want all countries to prosper, I am not interested in keeping anyone "down" or keeping other countries "down". Improve what you have and leave my corner alone. I also know this is supposed to be a melting pot, but if you are making a beef stew, and you throw in too much of another ingredient, then it's no longer beef stew, it becomes something else entirely. I'll go into more detail on another post.

So, I'll leave this for now, I'll be posting my political rants and thoughts here instead of on my main blog, read, enjoy, reply, agree or not, I enjoy a good debate.
